Envirolab Sydney Helps Raise Funds for the Asbestos Disease Research Institute and Support Groups

 01/12/2015

Envirolab Sydney supported Asbestos Awareness Month by hosting a Blue Lamington Drive morning tea last Friday 27 November.

Staff at Envirolab Sydney showed their baking skills in support of the Blue Lamington Drive charity event.

The initiative is part of raising awareness in the community to understand the dangers of asbestos during home renovations and maintenance. The initiative is also aimed to help raise vital funds for the Asbestos Disease Research Institute and Support Groups.

50 staff, visiting clients and friends were thrilled to come together to donate and support a great cause as Australia has one of the highest rates of asbestos-related diseases in the world.

A vast assortment of delicious “blue doo” treats contributed by staff were washed down with a cup of fresh barista coffee from the Envirolab Sydney kitchen. Some of the blue doo treats included blue lamingtons, blue cupcakes and cakes, blue vanilla slice, blueberry cheesecake, blue macarons, blue jelly and there was even blue rhubarb crumble! For the more health conscious, there were blue coloured protein balls and yoghurt served with blueberries.

During the morning tea, Lulu Scott, Sydney Asbestos Section Supervisor at Envirolab Sydney led a discussion and answered questions on the dangers of asbestos, where asbestos can be found and how best to manage it.

Of the $843 grand total raised by Envirolab Group in the 2015 Lamington Drive, the morning tea at Envirolab Sydney raised $111 for the Asbestos Disease Research Institute and Support Groups. This total was further supported by over $700 raised from additional donations received and $182 raised by Envirolab MPL Laboratories from two morning teas held Monday 16 November and Monday 30 November.

You can still support this cause by donating or leaving a message on our Envirolab Group 2015 Blue Lamington Drive page. Alternatively, you can also contact us by email or call us on 1300 424 344 for further information on the dangers and testing for asbestos.
