Students from Macquarie University interned this week at our Envirolab Sydney laboratory.

Envirolab is pleased to announce that we will be part of a research grant from the Australian Government to fund the development of new technological solutions in the detection of emerging contaminants, namely the field deployable detection of Perfluoroalkylated Substances (PFAS).

The start of this year marks an important milestone with Envirolab Group’s 12th Anniversary, from its founding in Sydney, Australia. This month also respectively marks the 7th anniversary of MPL Laboratories in Perth becoming part of Envirolab Group.

In response to growing concerns over the contamination left behind by clandestine methamphetamine labs, Envirolab Sydney is now testing for methamphetamine, MDMA, ephedrine and pseudoephedrine.

Understanding Leaching Environmental Assessment Framework (LEAF)
In 2016 the Department of Environment Regulation (DER) in Western Australia released an Environmental Standard on leachate testing. The document provides a comprehensive approach to leachate testing in order to assess potentially harmful chemical constituents that may be leaching from solid waste derived materials. LEAF testing is therefore more ideal for this type of assessment because it provides a more rigorous and more relevant approach to the currently used TCLP/ASLP methodology.

“Samples should be sealed and transported to the laboratory as soon as practicable, using suitable cooling aids (preferably ice bricks or in a refrigerated container) to ensure samples start cooling as soon as possible, and they should be stored in a refrigerator (≤6°C) until analysis.”
