Envirolab Group is proud to announce that following a recent external audit, Envirolab Services Pty Ltd and Envirolab Services (WA) Pty Ltd trading as MPL Laboratories (all Australian labs and offices) have successfully obtained certification for:
Health and Safety Management Systems (AS/NZS 4801:2001)
Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001:2018)
Environmental Management System (ISO 14001:2015)
Certification for these three areas is a significant achievement, which clearly demonstrates our commitment to due diligence and business excellence.
Following the receipt of the news last Friday, 14th December, a formal presentation was held earlier this week, Tuesday, 18th December at our Envirolab Services Sydney laboratory. Three certificates were presented by the auditor, Sam Fernando of Business Systems Certification, after Envirolab underwent an extensive audit over an intense week across our network of laboratories and offices. The audit assessed our existing occupational health and safety (OHS) and environmental management policies, practices and objectives in place; how these systems and procedures were established, managed, executed and reviewed. Comments in the auditor’s report for Envirolab recognised the existing systems and procedures as excellent. The auditor was also impressed with the knowledge and awareness of our staff and the commitment to safety by management.
Internally, the smooth delivery of the audit was managed by Matthew Mansfield, who played an integral role to ensure all necessary information was available, and that any required documentation and processes were implemented. Matt also coordinated site visits and the eventual rollout of the new system.
Matthew said, “This is a great achievement for Envirolab because we now have certification for AS/NZS 4801:2001, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015. Clients can now be confident that our services are considerate of internationally recognised OHS and environmental standards.”
In recognition of his effort, Matthew has been promoted to Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager.
With certification now acquired for our business operations in Australia, Matt will continue to manage Envirolab’s ongoing compliancy with international and domestic standards so that our contamination testing services are delivered to our clients in a safe, sustainable and quality manner.
The Importance of Management Systems
Within our ever-changing workplace, protection of the health and safety of all employees is vital to the success of all organisations. Poor implementation and maintenance of OHS procedures may increase the likelihood of costs associated with work-related illness, injury, and fatality. At the same time, caring for our environment and taking action to reduce environment impact are some of the major challenges facing businesses today.
An effective assessment and management of these issues is therefore paramount. Certification for OHS and environmental management systems will help us achieve that by enabling us to identify and control risks, identify legislative obligations and reduce the potential for accidents.
Managing Director of Envirolab Group, Tania Notaras said, “This is an important step for Envirolab to demonstrate compliancy and how we are focused on continued business improvement. Particularly as our businesses operate as a network of commercial laboratories and offices that offer environmental contamination testing, we need to be sensitive to and support management solutions. This certification aligns with our objective to be leaders in health and safety as well as environment management systems.”
About ISO 45001:2018 and AS/NZS 4801:2001
ISO 45001:2018 is a newly implemented International Standard that provides guidance to organisations and individuals for improved work safety in global supply chains and is designed to help reduce injuries and illnesses around the world.
Organisations and individuals can also apply AS/NZS 4801:2001 for assessing OHS in Australia and New Zealand. Of note, the Standards are voluntary and do not guarantee compliance with legal obligations to Work Health and Safety laws in Australia and New Zealand.

About ISO 14001 Standard for Environmental Management
First released by the International Standards Organization (ISO) and most recently updated in 2015, ISO 14001 is a voluntary International Standard that specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system (EMS). The management tool provides a framework for organisations and industry to minimise the environmental impact of their operations and processes and how to achieve environmental compliance with laws and regulations.
Certification also provides assurance to company management, employees and external stakeholders that environmental impact is being measured and steps are being taken to ensure its continued improvement.
